White House hits out at ‘leaked’ intelligence assessment on Iran strikes
The White House has hit out at a “leaked” intelligence assessment that the US had failed to destroy Iran’s nuclear sites in its weekend strikes, in remarks that dismissed the findings as “wrong” but appeared to acknowledge their authenticity.
CNN reported that an early assessment by the Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency found that the strikes on three Iranian facilities had probably only set back the programme by months.
“This alleged assessment is flat-out wrong and was classified as ‘top secret’ but was still leaked to CNN by an anonymous, low-level loser in the intelligence community,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told CNN in a statement.
“Everyone knows what happens when you drop fourteen 30,000 pound bombs perfectly on their targets: total obliteration.”

Iran is assessing damage to its nuclear industry and arrangements had been made for its restoration, Iran's nuclear chief Mohammad Eslami said, according to Mehr news, after a series of Israeli and US strikes targeted Iran's main nuclear facilities.
"The plan is to prevent interruptions in the process of production and services," Mr Eslami said.
